It's been a while, ok a long ass while, since I last wrote. In all fairness, September has been one hell of a crazy month.
It all started with my big event for work. The annual bike auction-and let me tell you, I was not sorry to see all that found property go. My first auction went smoothly if I say so myself. But like the items, I was not sad to see the auction go. I forget how many small things go into planning events, but I forgot how much I enjoy doing it!
In the midst of planning the auction, school started. School starting means super busy times for me, bike registrations and other minor things that come and go with my job, kept me busy, and continue to be fairly steady. I also started Graduate School this fall. While I am a non-degree seeking student, it's nice to be in school again. Sadly, I already know what I want to do my thesis on (if I ever take the GRE so I can apply to the Communication Program). While I may sound crazy saying that, I think it gives me a slight edge. :)
On the 17th we had M's 3rd birthday. This time I decided to rent a park shelter instead of attempting to squeeze 40 people in our tiny home. JJ's parents came out for the party (which will lead me to another discussion later), and it was good to spend time with them for the weekend. Everyone came together and helped us make this the easiest party ever. My mom and step dad made 2 kinds of chili, my sister made pasta salad, aunt made the cake, dad paid for the cake, it was way more than I expected! The only down fall to that day was the freak rainstorm that nearly cut the party short. But us Wyoming folks know that rainstorms don't last long around these parts. At the end of the day, everything was a success and M had a wonderful time. It's hard to see that she's 3 already, I know it goes fast, but man! I swear I was pregnant just yesterday. And all you people reading this saying "time to have another one!", just march your happy ass to a cliff and dive. There will be no more babies inhabiting this uterus. I got the perfect child on the first try, and yes, I do truly mean that.
The second best thing about September is COWBOY FOOTBALL!!! And boy, has this been a good season thus far. 3-1, only loss coming to Nebraska, is one way to start a season. I know we've got some rough games coming up, TCU, Boise, Air Force...but I'm continuing to uphold my optimism. If nothing else, because this team has some great guys on it. I have to thank my sister for getting me into mentoring. Without her getting me into it, I wouldn't have gotten to spend a minimum of 2 hours a week with these kids. M has a blast with them as well. She loves to flirt with the boys, batting her eyes at them, then watching them melt with her cuteness and innocence. If only they knew what a monster my love morphs into.
But the 3rd best thing about September is the leaves. I love the yellow/gold/green/brown colors that inhabit the trees around Laramie. Looking at the changing leaves makes my heart warm and fuzzy. When I was helping my grandma tear out the beaver dam from hell, I couldn't help but feel serene while watching the yellow leaves dance down river. It was almost out of Disney's Fantasia, where the flowers float around while music from the Nutcracker plays background. It's no wonder fall is a season loved by most.
I know September is over, and in all honestly, I'm glad it will be 11 months before it comes around again. I definitely need a break!
