Personalities

A friend of mine sent me a link to an annoying office personalities article a few weeks ago.  After mulling in this for a while, I can't disagree with the article, but it does not stop at the work place.  There are a wide variety of people you come in contact with everyday that seem to fit one personality or another.

You may say, but everyone's unique, yeah, not so much.  For example, I'll call this person Q-Q and I became fast friends at a job I've had.  After some time, I began to notice her negativity.  No one else could have a good day, ever.  I didn't immediately notice how her negativity affected my mood.  After some time, I decided that it's not worth letting her negativity affect me anymore.  By staying positive, I quickly noticed how she is also a one-upper.  "Oh you've done, that, I have too.  A lot of times.  In fact, I can't do such and such activity anymore because of it."  Nothing you do is every good enough for these types of people.  Either they're upset because they're negative and you're in a positive place, or you can't please them because they've already done everything else you're doing.  Another example, "you lost 10 pounds?  So did I, last week, it's no big deal."  Well guess what bitch, it is a big deal.  To me, it is.  Just because you may have lost it also, does not mean you can discredit my success.

Then there's the know-it-all.  They sneak up on you like a bear hunting a gazelle, "whatcha workin on?" "oh a spreadsheet" you may answer.  "What you need to do is ................" as they enter some lengthy explanation on how your method is lacking but their method, oh their method, is the best thing since sliced cheese.

Going back to the negative person, I'm not trying to be one of those.  By staying a positive person around these people, I'm finding that the "kill them with kindness" approach really does work.  I've been told that I'm annoyingly positive these days, but you know what?  I'd rather be annoyingly positive than negative about everything in the world that I can't control!
